Work-life balance is one of those things that many of us are constantly trying to improve. It can be hard to find the right balance that works for us, but I do have some suggestions as to how you can improve your work life balance and feel more relaxed in your day to day life. Here are my top three tips for a work-life balance.

1. Don’t Take Work Home With You
It can be tempting to take work home with you in order to get ahead or to give a little more to your company. But the truth is, you really need clear separation between work time and home time. Mixing the two can result in you feeling completely burned out and becoming less productive in your actual work hours. If you have a family or partner at home, then it’s going to be even more important that you create segregation so you can really focus on your time with them. Trying to both together will just result in sub-par work and unhappy family members. If you’re self-employed or work from home, then it’s going to be even more important for you to make the segregation in your daily life. I suggest creating a designated workspace at home, or even considering working in a co-working space so you’re not working at home every day. 2. Learn to Say No
It can be really hard to say no, especially to a manager or boss when you want to impress them. But you need to be realistic about how much work you can take on. You don’t want to take on so much work that you can’t even keep up with your normal workload. Obviously, you don’t have to say no all of the time and it’s important to take on extra tasks especially if you want more responsibility long term, but I think it’s important to think about what tasks you do say yes to. Setting healthy boundaries is important to ensure that you’re focused on the work that you want to do or that will help you develop your career move forward so you’re not overwhelmed.

3. Book in Fun Things
Just as you book in meetings and work-related things, you also need to book in fun things that you enjoy. Whether it’s a special date with your partner or a fun activity with the kids, you really need to make time for the things you love. Self-care is a big theme at the moment, and good reason, taking care of your mental health, your body and your energy levels will ensure that you can perform well in your work and also achieve your goals. If you don’t make time for things, then they don’t usually end up happening. So just as you set aside time each day for your work, you also need to do the same for the things you love and enjoy.

Finding a work-life balance that feels good can be quite a challenge but I hope these three tips help you get on track to finding what works best for you.
