3 Tips for Moving Overseas admin June 13, 2019 Real Estate I’ve moved overseas a few times – the actual number will depend on how long you think you need to move somewhere for it to count. But I’ve lived in Guatemala for 4.5 years, the Czech Republic for 6 months, I spent 3 months living in Madrid and then I’ve spent years living on the road. Moving overseas is a wonderful opportunity to get to know a new part of the world, to meet new people and experience new things, but it can also be a real challenge. Cultural shock is real, it can be hard being away from your friends and family, and if you’re living somewhere where you’ll have to learn a new language then that’s going to take a bit of time. Here are my top 3 tips for moving overseas: 1. Get Organized If you’ve ever moved house, then you know what an ordeal it can be. Packing everything into boxes, choosing what goes with you, and what you’re going to get rid of, trying to make things fit in your new home – the list goes on. It gets even more complicated when you’re moving overseas and have to organize all those things on a much bigger scale. If you’re moving overseas, my top tip is to be organized early. You’re going to want to really think about the logistics much easier so you don’t end up stressed. It may be worth calling in the experts who can help you pack and ship your things where they need to go. Check out carmel valley moving companies to review. If you’re moving for work, see if there are any moving packages offered so that you can save on both stress and expenses. 2. Don’t Rush In It’s very exciting to move overseas and is obvioulsy a big commitment, but I suggest that you don’t put all your eggs in one basket. You might love somewhere before you move, only to find out that living there isn’t quite as good as visiting. For that reason, I suggest to everyone I know who moves overseas to rent for at least the first year so that you can make sure you still love the place before you invest any real money into being there. Likewise, I would advise against selling any properties back home before you’re sure that’s where you’re going to stay. Give yourself at least a year, that way you’ll have time to figure out how you really feel about the place. If you’re thinking about selling your previous home, you might want to invest in the best frameless glass railings to improve the overall value and look of your home. 3. Make the Effort It can be hard when you move somewhere new and no basically no one – it can be quite challenging setting up your social life and figuring out where you fit in. But you’re quite simply just going to have to make some effort in the beginning. Say yes to any events you’re invited to, maybe join some Meet Ups to make some new friends and submerge yourself in your favourite hobbies so you can meet like-minded people. Making the effort to not only make new friends in the place you’re living but also to keep in touch with your old friends, will ensure that your move goes as smoothly as possible. Moving can be a huge stress, but it can also be a great adventure. With these tips, I hope you have the most stress-free move possible.
