If you’re like most people, you probably don’t get too much downtime. In fact, it’s likely that you’re overworked (possibly underpaid), go into work while sick, and don’t take all of your holidays. This is the average worker, and it’s this type of lifestyle that’s causing so many people to be continually run down, tired, and sick.

Weekend breaks are a great way to get away from it all and recharge. Here are some tips to ensure you enjoy your weekend break:

Take an extra day

Sometimes a holiday will fall on a Friday or a Monday, and this is the perfect opportunity to take a weekend break. If not, that’s the perfect time to use one of your allocated holidays, so you can make the most of the weekend and take a step back from work.

Sign off

Many of us are continually working, even while we’re not actually at work anymore. For most people, signing into their work emails over the weekend is a given, while others are expected to be on call, and many people will be continually checking in with the office even while on holiday. To truly rest, recharge, and relax, you need to step way from the office and have some proper downtime. Let your boss know you’ll be offline and away from your phone, and make it a non-negotiable. That way you can enjoy your weekend break and spend time with your friends or family without continually checking your phone.

Stay Local

It can be tempting to head overseas whenever you have a few days off, but there are many good reasons to stay in the UK. You’ll be able to travel quickly to your destination without needing to deal with airports, and this means you’ll be relaxing and enjoying yourself quicker than any other option.

Consider heading somewhere scenic, and explore the Forest of Dean with your family, friends, or significant other. The area is on the borders of Wales and England, and one of the few remaining forests in the area. You’ll find incredible scenery, limestone gorgeous, diverse fauna and flora, and a huge variety of wildlife. Choose a cute, comfortable cottage, and spend time exploring the area and enjoying the vast range of outdoor activities available.

Amp up the romance

If you and your partner haven’t had the chance for much alone time this year, a weekend break is the perfect solution. Take some candles, buy some finger food, and commit to spending some quality time together. Whether you’re near a forest, a beach, or a charming town, spend some time wandering together, exploring your new location, and meeting the locals. Avoid talking about work or the kids, and instead allow yourselves to daydream and simply enjoy being with each other.

As you can see, there are many great reasons to take a weekend break, and with the above tips, you can easily have an amazing mini-holiday and come back feeling rested and refreshed.
