I’ve been fortunate enough to have done a lot of travel in my life. And much of this travel has involved dodgy hostels and long bus rides. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy these experiences, but as I’ve gotten a little older, I’ve realised that I’m ready to take shorter trips and enjoy those trips a little more.

For this reason, I’ve decided I’ll definitely be taking a cruise this year. One of the things I want to do most is relax on a cruise holiday. With all the long-haul flights I’ve taken lately, I’m most excited about getting some time to truly relax, and cruising is the way to do it. Here’s why:

Treat Yourself

When you’ve stayed in as many hostels as I have, and spent as many hours on bumpy buses without a wink of sleep, you realise that sometimes you just need to splurge. Not that cruising is expensive by any means, but it’s probably a little more than I would have spent a few years ago. Now I’m beginning to realise that cruising is a great way to introduce a little well-earned luxury into my life.

Total Relaxation

What’s better than lying by the pool with a drink in your hand? Lying by the pool with a drink in your hand while you’re transported to an exciting new destination. I’m over the last-minute dash to the airport and struggling to fit all of my belongings into my suitcase right before I need to check out of a hotel (am I the only one who ends up covered in sweat while doing this?) Sometimes you just want to have a relaxing vacation, but cruising also allows you to see and do plenty of fun things along the way.

Bang for my Buck

One of the reasons why cruising is so appealing? It’s so ridiculously cost-effective. In fact, cruising is a great way to travel if you want to stretch your travel dollars to their limit. That’s because it’s almost completely all-inclusive. You can get all of your accommodation, food, entertainment, and transport for less than $100 a night if you find the right deal. Plus, you can add on drinks packages and activities along the way so everything has been paid for upfront.

Socialisation

While I wouldn’t say I’m a party animal, I would say that I love to meet new people. And when you’re cruising you have plenty of opportunities to do this. Not only do you get to hang out with your friends, but you’ll meet other like-minded travellers in the bars, clubs, and cafes. And since everyone is in vacation-mode, everyone is ready to enjoy themselves.
