After the excitement of the worlds is over in September, Izy and I will embark on a grand tour of Europe. It will be my first time visiting so I am really excited to get over there and see what it’s all about. No tour of Europe would be complete without a visit to Amsterdam and we’ve found a super central hotel through Accor hotels  not only is it in a great location, it’s affordable too. Now that our accommodation is booked, we have been busy trying to figure out how we’ll spend our time. We’ve got a few things in mind and here are the top three things we’re looking forward to doing in Amsterdam.

Here are 3 things I’m looking forward to.

1.    The Anne Frank House

One of the amazing museums documenting WW2, and a must see for me. We are going to get a chance to enter the very place Anne and her family hid for all those years while composing her famous diary. The history Europe is so vast compared to New Zealand, being such a young country, and I can’t wait to experience some of these museums first hand.

2.     Get our Bike on.

Apparently 50% of people living in Amsterdam use a bicycle regularly. New Zealand could learn a thing or 2 from these people with our obesity rates at an all time high, but that’s another story. I’m looking forward to hiring a bike and cruising around the city. My parents recently visited Europe for the first time in over 20 years, and when they got back dad gave me some great advice. He said, “ Mate the worse thing you can do is wait till your old to travel, and end up seeing everything from behind the glass of a tour bus”. So we are going to go out and explore the city first hand, and who knows what adventures we are going to find waiting for us.

3.    Try the Coffee

Amsterdam must make amazing coffee, with millions of tourists flocking to the city to the city every year to visit their cafes. So we are gong to go and see what all the fuss is about, with a wide selection of tasty cakes and brownies too I’m looking forward to kicking back with my girl, playing some pool and sampling the culture of this special place.

Have you been to Amsterdam? Do you have any recommendations? What should we do? We’d love to hear your thoughts – leave them in the comments below.
