Prague, Czech Republic

Prague is just magical at Christmas. You only need to wander around the old town square and it’s Christmas markets to feel like you have walked into a complete winter fairy tale. The tall gothic cathedral that stands tall over the Christmas markets just makes it even more special. You can sip mulled wine in the markets, take a stroll across the famous Charles Bridge or take a boat cruise down the river.

Lapland, Finland

As the official hometown of Santa and traditional sleigh rides, you don’t get much more Christmas spirit then that. In fact you can even visit Santa’s village, a popular amusement park perfect for families. If you want you can stay in an igloo hotel or go on a husky safari then Finland is your place to visit. You might even be lucky enough to get a glimpse of the Northern lights.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen is a great place for families. Take the kids to Tivoli (Land of Elves) for a unique and authentic Christmas experience. The Danish do some amazing local treats at Christmas too. Make sure you try the deliciously rich hot chocolate and special Danish pastries and pancakes.

Moscow, Russia

If you want to celebrate Christmas twice for the year then head on over to Moscow, where they also have Christmas celebrations at the Moscow Russian Winter Festival beginning of January. The best thing to do during the festival is visit the ice sculptures. Make sure you dress warm though as a Russian winter is the coldest out there.

Amsterdam, Holland

Amsterdam truly lights up at Christmas time with the Amsterdam Light Festival, which starts end of November and goes all the way through to mid January. You can truly get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy ice skating, classical music performances, Christmas markets and the Christmas circus.

Athens, Greece

Whilst this isn’t a snowy winter wonderland like other Europe destinations, Greece at Christmas is the perfect time to visit. You no longer need to fight with the crowds at popular tourist spots like Parthenon, plus enjoy some slightly warmer weather then other parts of Europe.
