Las Vegas has a lot to see and do, and nobody questions that, but what many people don’t realize is there are some unusual attractions that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Expedia offers five of the top offbeat things to see in Las Vegas.

Time Travel to the Old West

Out Red Rock Canyon Road, past the Red Rock National Conservation area there are hundreds of wild donkeys and horses living off the land. With a little imagination you can envision old cowboys rounding up the herds and taking them to auction. You may need an off-road vehicle to go down the dirt lanes that take you deep into the high desert.

In Chloride, Arizona, about an hour and a half drive from Las Vegas you can participate in a gun fight, get shot and thrown in jail. Full of cowboys and other ‘authentic’ locals this tiny town puts on a good wild-west show.

The Highest Thrill Ride in the World

On top of the Stratosphere, which is 1,000 feet up, are rides that would be scary enough at ground level. The Big shot is the highest ride in the world. It shoots you straight up into the air at high velocity, and that’s starting at 1,000 feet. There are several other gut-wrenching rides, if that’s your idea of a good time.

Laugh at yourself or Die

Dick’s Last Resort in Excalibur Hotel is like no other restaurant. They have all the right food and beverages, but the waiters are trained to insult the customers. If you’re from out of town, you may take a verbal beating, but it is all in good fun and you may laugh so much that you can’t eat or drink. There is a stage where you can sing to your heart’s content and you can dance among the tables.

Swim with the Sharks

You may encounter card sharks in the game sites, but you can also encounter the real thing if you are a SCUBA certified person. The Mandalay Bay aquarium is one of the few places in the world where you can get in the tank with the sharks, including the fierce Sand Tiger.

Play in a Giant Sand Box

If you remember enjoying sand play with imaginary machines, you’ll love this. Even if you never saw a sand box, driving these machines is awesome. You can get behind the wheel of a bulldozer and push around boulders or move mountains. There is also a Caterpillar and a hydraulic excavator. You’ll get a safety orientation and a little training, but this is fun and empowering for everyone from teenagers to grandmothers.

These are just a few of the many offbeat and fun things to do and see when you visit Las Vegas.
