One of the hardest aspects of travelling is not being able to spend time with your family whenever you want. But there are a few things you can do while overseas in order to show them how much you love and care about them. Whether you’re travelling for a few weeks, or overseas for a few years, here are four tips for showing your loved ones you care when you’re overseas.

1. Check-in On Their Health
Chances are your parents or grandparents are ageing, which can make leaving and going overseas even harder. The truth is many elderly people struggle with a loss of independence and also heightened health care costs as they age and their income stays relatively steady. Checking in regularly on their health is a great way to show that you care, especially if you know they’re struggling with something in particular. You can also invest in some specialĀ foot care for seniors treatment to ensure that they’re feeling well loved and pampered. 2. Skype Regularly
Personally, I think Skype is such a game changer as it means that you can easily make voice or video calls with your loved ones for free no matter where you are in the world. It can be a little bit challenging finding times that work especially if you’re on a different time zone, but it’s so worth it. I suggest setting up Skype on your family member’s phones or laptops before you leave and showing them how to use it if it’s their first time.

3. Snail Mail
How often do you receive a nice letter in the mail or even a postcard? Barely ever? I know how that is! These days I don’t really get any mail, but the only things I do get are advertisements or bills. A physical letter is such a nice way to show your family members you’re thinking of them, and a fun way to keep in touch. Postcards are also a great way to involve them in your trip – you can consider sending them a postcard from every city or country that you visit, ensuring that they keep updated with your trip and can enjoy your adventures. I’m sure they’ll treasure each postcard you send them and really enjoy seeing what you’re up to along the way.

4. Have Them Visit You
If finances allow, it can be special to invite your parents or siblings over for a trip to visit you. You can offer to pay for their airfares if finances allow, or offer to contribute a bit in order to make it more affordable for them. I’m sure your family will love to see where you live or where you’re travelling, and it can be a great way to create some special memories together. Obviously, this is a big investment, so would only work if you have the spare money to do so.
